Parang started to write fiction after realizing that a good story can give a small comfort and a little smile to make any day pretty nice. She studied business and computer science in college and now works as a software engineer, weaving codes during the day and cooking stories at night. Her very first hyper-realistic short story “The Startup” (잘 부탁드립니다) met with enthusiastic reader response and was published in the short stories anthology entitled Neo-Confucionism Punk 2077 (성리학 펑크 2077) by Golden Bough publishing. Parang’s short story begins with the sentence: “You mean you want to perform a sacrificial ritual for the server machines?” It depicts the ups and downs of a first-year employee at a startup company. Another of Parang’s short story entitled “A Letter To Mel” (멜에게 보내는 편지) was longlisted for the 2023 SF Awards. The jury commented that “beautiful, lyrical, well-structured and captivating, this is an ideal of a SF short story.” Her vampire romance novella entitled “Canine, I Love You” (사랑해, 송곳니) received the Excellency Prize in the Third BritG Romace-Thriller Contest. And her short story entitled “Happy Memory Together” (해피 메모리 투게더) won the Grand Prize in the 2023 SF Story Contest hosted by Donga Science Magazine. “Happy Memory Together” is a SF mystery thriller centering on the topic of memory with an added flavor of romance.
As a software engineer, Parang bases her stories on her thoughts and observations about human beings and their relationship with technology. And she writes about the various ways and form in which science and engineering meets the human heart. Parang still holds the belief that individuals have the power to change the world for the better, and most enjoys writing about stories about those kinds of people.
