Dongseob was interested in the fact that each period in the history of humankind could be defined by achievements of used materials for tools. He majored in materials engineering to develop a new material as a driving force of civilization and minored in Korean literature. Then he studied semiconducting polymers and carbon nanotubes in graduate school and received his degree of Ph. D. in chemical engineering.
While as a graduate student, he won the POSTECH SF Award in the mini-fiction category in 2022 with two works, “The Expression of Emotions in the Human as an Animal” (인간이라는 동물의 감정 표현) and “Who’s There?” (누구냐, 거기?). In 2023, he won the Grand Prize in Moon, Yoon Sung SF Literary Award in the short stories and novellas category with his short story “Water Lung” (물의 폐). He also published a short story in the SF magazine The Earthian Tales (No. 5).
Moreover, he participated in the organization of a R&D project for the future for next 40 years established by Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), and prepared request for proposals for promising technologies and envisioned scenarios for forthcoming societies. He is involved in several works across scientific and literary domains, such as giving lectures on SF and teaching a craft of fiction.
He aspires to create connections between the mysterious sides of the vast globe and the complexities of human inner mind through storytelling.
