Cheong ye’s writings are lively and always have a clear point.
She won the Grand Prize in Korean SF Literature Awards in the Novels category in 2023, and received the Excellency Prize in K-Story Contest in 2021 and 2022. And in 2021, she also won the Excellency Prize in Kyobo Books Story Contest in the Short Stories category.
Just over a year after her literary debut, Cheong ye already signed two contracts for film and TV adaptation. She writes “tapestry stories” which present clear characteristics of genre literature and implicitly shows various aspects of contemporary life.
There is one specific rule in her writing: that the central character begins as a repulsive character. Cheong ye skillfully creates characters and events that are three-dimensional and wide-ranged. She makes the readers to hate her characters at first but gradually fall in love with them.
As for SF, she enjoys interpreting the genre from the viewpoint of social science. She is also experimenting with various approaches to create Oriental SF with a distinctly Asian hue. She often incorporates Buddhist messages and metaphors. However, all her writings have a certain sense of humor. One of her editors commented that her writing is “cheerful and heavy” and that she is a “writer with an aspiration for comedy.”
Her works include Candy Rain (사탕비, 2023), Universe Under Heavy Rain (폭우 속의 우주) and The Last Jelly Shot (라스트 젤리 샷).
In the past Cheong ye worked for a public institution as a finance expert. Therefore she has integrity.
