Gungyu was born in 1992 and majored in sociology. He always had a lot of stories that popped up in his head. He did not want to just dismiss them as empty daydreams, so he decided to write a novel after he finished his military service.
While working somewhere in Yuido near the Korean National Assembly, Gunguy came across one pro-life banner that said “Give Birth, We Will Raise Them.” His imagination started from here and he wrote his full-length SF novel entitled KOREAI (코리아이, 2023). Kore-AI won the Grand Prize in Genre Literature IP Contest in the SF/ Fantasy category. One of the judges commented that “this novel tells us that hell is not a place without redemption but one without caring.”
Gungyu often sets his stories against a world created by human needs and desire. He aspires to develop characters who reflect the ambiguity of humankind that evolved with both egotism and altruism. He focuses on genetic engineering and industrial technology; he is wary of its fast-paced growth and the infinite possibilities and dangers that come with it. He is also looking forward to the upcoming Space Age and will continue to write science fiction.
