Neoul discovered the joy of reading fiction while reading "Stolen Poverty" by Wan-Seo Park. He then was ushered into the world of genre literature with the novel The Bird That Drinks Tears. And Starcraft opened the door to science fiction. He remained a consumer of culture until he read a book on how to write fiction and wrote his first short story in 2018, at age 24.
His first short story "Silence" (정적) was selected for the 2018 "Together, Value" project at the Seogyo Art Experiment Center, and Neoul became a writer. His short story "Press Jump to End the World" (세상을 끝내는 데 필요한 점프의 횟수) won the Tory Comics Award at the Busan International Film Festival Asian Film Market Book-to-Film competition. And it also won the Grand Prize in SF Award for short stories and novellas in 2019.
Neoul published his first full-length novel Extinction Society (소멸사회) in 2019. In 2020 he published his collected short stories, first one entitled Thank God, It’s Friday (땡스 갓 잇츠 프라이데이) and the second entitled The Loathsomeness of Aging (나는 절대로 저렇게 추하게 늙지 말아야지). Neoul is now working on a cycle of stories to be published at Safe House Publishers and a collection of essays to be published at Wisdom House Publishers. Neoul is also actively interested in other media and media mix such as webtoons.
Neoul majored in psychology in college and also studied neurobiology. He often writes SF stories about social sciences and biology. Unique topics, easy-reading sentences, black humor are his strong suit. Neoul is also a member of Mirror Webzine.
