Uitaek Choi (최의택)

As a child Uitaek confused the sense of awe in SF with fear. As a result, he found the true charm of the genre too late and is making up for lost time by exploring the world of SF all the more ardently. Starting with modern Korean SF, he is widening his range to non-Korean works and SF works from the past, all the while slowly and carefully adjusting hue and shade of his own literary world. However, due to physical disability the speed is very relaxed and the range limited. Uitaek believes writing is the thing for him and is fearless in depicting the weaknesses inherent in beings. And he thinks science fiction is an almost brutally perfect genre for dealing with those weaknesses.

He honed his literary skills writing thrillers under the influence of Stephen King and Jung, Yu-Jung, and after reading Bora Chung in 2019 he began to write science fiction in earnest. The stories he wrote in this time began to shine on the online platform BritG and Mirror webzine. In 2020 he published two full-length novels and finally stepped out to the world. Children of Schrodinger (슈뢰딩거의 아이들) won the first Moon, Yoon-Sung SF Literary Award. Reviewers praised it for its "impressive depiction of well-rounded characters who have diverse identities but are not limited by them" and the fact that it "powerfully conveys the theme of isolation and exclusion by technology."
