Mogua Hwang (황모과)

Mogua Hwang went to Japan and worked as a staff member at a graphic novel artist’s studio. She has also worked in translating graphic novels and graphic novel management. Financial difficulties in the creative field led her to work at an IT company for six years. Mogua published her stories on the on-line platform BritG and three of her short stories, "The Way to Become A Family" (가족이 되는 길), "The Third Mannequin” (삼호 마네킹) and "Time For the People Left Behind" (남겨진 자들의 시간) were selected as Editors’ Choice. Mogua then won the Grand Prize for Short Stories and Novellas in the fourth Korea Science Fiction Award in 2019 with her short story "The Moment Arcade" (모멘트 아케이드). Mogua also wrote the original story for the episode "Augmented Infatuation" (증강 콩깍지) in the MBC Korean Original SF Anthology tv-series SF8. The dramatized version is entitled "Love Virtually." This story was also published in the Big Star Anthology by Safehouse Inc. Mogua published her first collection of short stories Faces of the Night (밤의 얼굴들) in June, 2020. This collection includes six of her works. Among these stories, "Homecoming, Better Late Than Never" (연고, 늦게라도 만납시다) and "Floor B at Nishiwaseda Station" (니시와세다역 B층) look back into Korean history through technology; "Your Memory is a Ghost" (당신의 기억은 유령) is about experience and empathy harnessed in memory and physical sensation.
