Jian Park (박지안)

Jian Park, in her childhood, was one of those weirdo girls that was always reading books and drawing pictures. Later she aspired to be a cartoonist and went to an art high school to major in creative cartoon drawing. She then discovered the pleasure of writing fiction and majored in creating writing in college. While studying traditional literature Jian avidly read various works of genre literature such as mystery, detective novels, horror and SF. The knowledge she gained from such reading helped her when she taught essay writing. As she stepped into her gloomy thirties while busy just making ends meet, her novella "Please Save Coronis" (코로니스를 구해줘) won the first Korea Science Fiction Awards in 2016. "Please Save Coronis" is a cross between SF and a psychological thriller. Her short story "Happy Birthday, 3D Seaweed Soup" (해피 버스데이, 3D 미역국!) won the 2015 Golden Bough Tasty Award and was published in 2017 in the anthology Seven Tastes, Seven Stories. Also in 2017, in August, Jian published a short story entitled "The AI Drinks Espresso" (AI는 에스 프레소를 마신다) in the online magazine Crossroads

Jian's strength as a writer lies in her wide range of interests from subculture to high art. She is studying how to smoothly combine existing SF and high literature. At the same time, she believes that fiction must be fun. And Jian continues to observe and write about how technological advancement affects ordinary people in her SF works.
