Kim Jaa (김재아)

As a child Jaa always lost when she argued with her older sister. Even when her sister was at fault, Jaa was the one to lose. It was because she would cry before she could speak. At night Jaa would write down how unfair it all was. So for her, the reason for becoming a writer was not because she loved books like others say. She loved books, but it was mainly because she didn’t have the arguing skills. Jaa debuted as a writer when she won the Nabi Literary Award in 2010. It was hosted by a web magazine that was the collaboration of Mun Hak Dong Ne, Chanbi and other well-known Korean publishers. However the web magazine did not last a year and Jaa lost the space for publishing her works, so she just kept writing on her own for a while. During this time she worked at the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity and naturally became interested in science fiction. In 2019, she published a novel focusing on artificial intelligence entitled As Though Dreaming, As Though Dancing (꿈을 꾸듯 춤을 추듯). Readers commented that her work was a philosophical novel. Jaa is interested in Existentialism and the relationship between humans and other species. She likes books that are not only fun but also has layers. In 2023 she is planning to publish a collection of short fictions of various genres including SF (title undecided). She is also planning to publish a book of conversations between the most prominent Korean scientists and philosophers entitled Allow AI To Have Body (인공지능에게 몸을 허하라).
