Djuna (듀나)

Djuna’s career began by writing short stories at Hitel SF club in the early 1990s. Before that Djuna had no experience in writing or completing a fictional story. Everyone was an amateur at the time and perhaps nobody thought it could be one’s profession. In 1994, some of Djuna’s stories from the Hitel years were published in a collection of short stories by various authors under the unbecoming title Cyber Punk (사이버펑크). Afterwards Djuna published collected short stories such as Butterfly War (나비전쟁), Duty Free Area (면세구역), Pacific Express (태평양 횡단특급), Proxy War (대리전), Teeth of the Dragon (용의 이), The Bloody Battle of the Broccoli Plain (브로콜리 평원의 혈투) and Not God Yet (아직은 신이 아니야) and survived thus far. The pen name Djuna was chosen by the editor of the Imagine magazine when Djuna were publishing short stories. DJUNA was the ID for Hitel network and the authors themselves had almost no say in the decision to use it as a pen name.

As SF writers, Djuna’s role is meaningful in the sense that they worked as a bridge between the amateurism during the Hitel network years and the genre literature writers of today. In addition to SF, they write movie critiques and have published two books related to that field.
