Serang Chung majored in history and literature in college. She worked as an editor for books of poetry and a literary magazine, and began her own career as a writer by publishing "Dream, Dream, Dream" (드림, 드림, 드림) in the SF-fantasy magazine Fantastic in 2010. Then she garnered praise and attention among SF readers with her first novel Show Me Your Snaggletooth (덧니가 보고 싶어) which incorporates various stories ranging from SF to a historical novel. Her second novel is an ecological SF love story entitled Han-A from Earth (지구에서 한아뿐).
Her literary accomplishment was repeatedly acknowledged when she won the seventh Changbi Novel Award in 2013 with This Much Close (이만큼 가까이) and the fiftieth Hanguk Ilbo Literary Award in 2017 with Everybody Will be Dancing (피프티 피플). Her most well-known works include Jain, Jaewook, Jaehoon (재인, 재욱, 재훈), the story of three siblings with trivial superpowers, and The School Nurse Files (보건교사 안은영), the remarkable activities of a school nurse who can perform exorcism. This Much Close was translated into Japanese and The School Nurse Files was made into a Netflix original drama series.
Serang is a writer who simultaneously shows contemporary characteristics and individuality. She writes about the community and the individual within it with a unique emotional touch. Recently Serang is interested in environmental SF.
