The Complete and thorough bio-bibliography of the SFWUK member writers
Mi-Joo Bae published her first book of collected short stories for children entitled Ung-nyeo’s Time Travel (published by Munji) (웅녀의 시간여행) in 2008 and in 2010 won the third Changbi Young Adult Literature Award with her SF novel Syncher (싱커). Her other works include a collection of novellas The Messengers of the Wind (바람의 사자들) and her young adult novel Rimroad (림 로드). In The Messengers of the Wind She uses her imagination based on historical records. Mi-Joo is not a prolific writer but critics have commented that she has a bold imagination, and that her stories are powerful and dynamic while featuring elaborate settings.
She started her literary career with stories for children and teenagers but she writes whatever she wants to write without targeting a specific reader group or genre. She enjoys crossing boundaries with her imaginations, picturing and creating strange spaces and times rather than pursuing stability, perhaps because she moved a lot as a child.
Currently Mi-Joo is working on an alternate history fantasy where she re-interpreted and re-created actual ancient Korean history and characters into a mythical world. She is also planning to write a love story between delicate and ordinary people in a multiverse setting. She wishes to write stories that are fun and well-structured in the classical sense: stories that can be read for a long time.
